Rotorcraft In Action

Posted By: Nancy Cogliandro, Marketing Director, PKB (Nancy, pacamor at msn dot com)   01/08/2009

PKB thanks undergroundhouse.com for posting this incredible video from January 3,2009 of the Trump Tower Chicago Spire installation via Sikosrky S-61 Rotocraft.  If not for the background music and an accosasional bird fly-by, it would look like all action stops on several occasions.  What an amazing aircraft.  Enjoy the story and the video.

Here's the cameraman's story:

This video shows the last hour of installation of the spire atop the 92-story Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, on Saturday, January 3, 2009. The installation on this day took over 4 hours. I only caught the last part (around 1pm) because I woke up late. This video (sped up 8x) was filmed almost 3 miles away, so unfortunately it's not very clear. At the end of my video, you will see the Sikorsky S-61 helicopter fly by on its way to Midway Airport.

Please note that the spire installation on this day isn't fully completed. Fiberglass on a few sections around the steel trusswork still needs to be installed.

Here's a nice closeup pic from the Chicago Tribune:
